FunDrive: 20090201 ABC Power, Bentong

4 02 2009

img_1256-medium

It’s been a while and it’s time again for another WPC fun drive.

1st February 2009. On brisk Sunday morning, 23 waja owners gathered not knowing where they are going to head to except for the marshal team. The meeting point was petronas batu cave; near the karak highway and surprisingly we were not the only group that about to have some fun with our ride. We were greeted by the presence of PROSBOC and PROCC groups at the same location as well.

At 8.45, we were briefed by chief marshal of the day, Dean, regarding convoy rules and safety check. All members came well prepared both mentally and physically and no slippers were seen on driver’s foot. Still the destination was remains unknown.

We started moving at 9.10am heading to trunk road heading to genting sempah, which would be the first clue of the destination; it’s out of KL ;) Though there was not much traffic, there were numbers of cyclist using the same trunk road for practice. With the assistance of mixed senior and junior members of marshal team, the journey was smooth and well.
Arrived at genting sempah roundabout nearby the R&R, the convoy being redirected to the trunk road to janda baik. Here is another stretch of challenging route as the road is pretty much narrow with numbers of sharp turns. As some of the members enjoying the windy road, we still need to be always alert of others especially the incoming traffic with limited line of sight. This is where communication equipment plays a very big role, and being an experienced club in convoy activities, all cars are equipped.

It was a great experienced driving under the shade of the nature with the chilling air that even colder than air-cond! Several water stream originated from titiwangsa makes it more inviting and irresistible. Some of us even felt so misfortune they didn’t bring swimming gear on that day. at 10.20 we were greeted by civilisation again. A familiar sight of motorist, shop lots, and the warmth of small town like bentong welcomed us. What? Bentong?! We can hardly feel the journey is that long being awed by panoramic scene of nature.

We drove few minutes more and Zero made his final turning to the destination. It was at a small car park in front of one shop lot and one of the shops written “ABC Power” at its signage. We then straight away knew we’ve arrived. After brief arrangement at the car park we headed into the shop. Everyone seems so anxious to try the infamous ABC since most of us didn’t get a chance to have breakfast earlier. The ABC didn’t disappointing. A perfect blend of traditional ABC, with all the dressing n condiments, topped with vast selection of ice cream flavour really hit the spot. I had 2 bowl myself. But it seems ABC alone didn’t cut it, so some of us resort to get roti canai from nearby mamak restaurant. I’m included.

After a bit more than an hour mingling around and indulge ourselves, it’s time to make a trip back to KL. But before that, we have the ever-must photo session at the car park with the Bentong bus station as the background. We had another round of briefing from chief marshal and off we go.

We opt for highway this time as it more relax. The convoy was splited due to heavy traffic but we managed to regroup at entrance of karak highway, bentong bound. Convoy members showed high spirits and discipline in following traffic rules and direction from the marshals and that does pretty much smoothen up the drive. We arrived at toll gombak around 12.15 noon and the initial plan to disperse at this location was cancelled due to insufficient space to stop.

We then proceed to Petronas Melawati. 30 minutes later we arrived at the break-off point and then being debriefed before members taking the chance to bid farewell to everyone. Some of us felt the morning drive isn’t enough and proceed to do a ‘mini fun drive’ to sungai kedondong, batang kali, along the old trunk road to genting.

Overall, it was a great event for the members to stretch their leg after fun drive has been missing from the event calendar quite some time. This is also a practice drive for the participants of Jom Gi Ganu II Trip that will be held on 14-16 Feb 2009. We’ve seen few potential members for the marshal team too. All in all, we had a good turned out, and for the juniors, we hoped that they would enjoy the spirit of grouped driving of WPC as much as the seniors do. For the seniors, keep on rocking ;)

Kudos to all convoy members and to the marshals, great work. Till the next fundrive, barium033 signing out.

Report

WPC Sunday Breakfast Drive to Sg. Lui was held on Sunday, Nov. 2 2008.
As many as 20 Members and 20 Wajas took part in the event.
We gathered at Restoran Pelita Nasi Kandar at Ampang Point as early as 0700hrs.
While waiting for others to arrive, early comers having their light breakfast and have a chit-chat.

Sharp at 0800hrs, the event organizers introduced themselves to participants and ZERO gave his convoy briefing.
The convoy then moved to destination, Sg Lui Café around 0830hrs. We took Jalan Ampang-Hulu Langat. It was a clear weather morning. Convoy was in control and organized.

We arrived at Sg. Lui Café around 0900hrs. The location is serene and quiet. We wonder because there’s such place not far from KL and the café is one good example.
We then parked our car which mostly covered the available parking area of the café.
The café owner welcomed us warmly and the even put up nice welcome board showing “Waja Performance Club”.
The café was mostly filled up by us. The owner had quite tough time to entertain us since we came in big crowd. Nasi Lemak was a fast menu to arrive for the Members who ordered it. Menu such as Chicken Divine, took quite some time to be prepared. And I tell you, my waiting for the Chicken Divine was so worthy because it is a new taste for me. Slices chicken meat with cheese sauce all over it…so yummy!
I’m sure want to come here again in future so does few other Members. We then had a conversation with the owner about Ikan Kelah. We learned new things about the fish. One of it is the fish is a sensitive fish and could get stressful and die. The fish also expensive, almost like Arowana.
We then had a photo session and greeted the owner before we left the café.

About 1100hrs, we drove to Sg. Tekali Recreational Park for ‘mandi sungai’. We took Ulu Yam Dam route and had nice morning scenery. Good for environmental conscious person to appreciate the beauty of the environment here. The route quite winding and we had a good time with it. We reached the recreational park around 1130hrs.
We all then searched for good picnic spot for all of us. We brought lots of food to be enjoyed that day in pot-luck style.
Then we began to enter the river stream and get ourselves wet. The water is so cold even the day had turned noon. We had a fun and good time playing water. The coldness didn’t halt us to enjoy it as much as we could.

We then packed up our stuffs and get back to our cars for leaving the recreational park. We decided to dismiss at Menara Tinjau Ampang before head to our home. We left the park around 1330hrs. The day was rainy that time and we drove more carefully. At 1400hrs, we then stopped by at Menara Tinjau Ampang for ZERO to collect convoy equipments from all HOT CARs. The rain was heavy this time. We couldn’t manage to greet good bye to everyone. We just did it through the FRS. We then headed to our home from there, about 15 minutes later.

The Sunday Breakfast Drive this time was unique because we managed to execute 2 events in one time. 1 was the breakfast at Sg. Lui Café and the other one was having a picnic at Sg. Tekali Recreational Park.
We all enjoyed the breakfast, the picnic and the day and we had a good time.
I personally would like to come to the café again in future because of the serene and quiet location and also the Chicken Divine menu.

Around 7:15am, at Pelita Ampang Point, luzirahs, barium and huda accompanied Southern Members, Nelly and Mya_Zara a.k.a Farez for light breakfast.

After the breakfast, we moved to the appointed RV point via MRR2 and we spotted SAVOC’s convoy and heard them on 7-0 FRS channel.
We arrived at the RV point with other participants waiting for us. Sorry guys and gals for being a lil’bit late.
We then collect out convoy numbering and reposition our car in convoy position as guided by Marshals Team.
Sharp at 9:30am, we took-off from the RV point heading to Genting Highlands as planned.
Alhamdulillah and thank God, with helps from Southern’s ZERO (Mya Zara n Nelly), we managed to overcome all the traffic situations on the highway with helps from HOT CARs and CONTROL CAR.

The challenge of driving ascending way up to Genting has then begun.
First ‘casualty’ was BM10 of Team A, Zahar due to overheat issue.
HOT CAR 1 stopped by and helped Zahar with other Members continue the convoy.
Few minutes after that, another convoy members of Team A, MA07 became second ‘casualty’.
Chompantul as BM Team B, together with HOT CAR 3, Shafieq stopped by and helped Kapten Azlan.

Alhamdulillah and thank God, roughly 20 minutes later the convoy safely arrived at the event’s park as planned.
Mumucuk then joined up the convoy.
Marshal Team then busy with arranging and positioning our cars.
Then before we proceed to Genting Internation Convention Center (GICC), we had a photo-session.
Nice, cold weather and high humidity drives most of us for quick relief…at the nearest Esso station not far from the parking area.

Around 12pm, we together with SAVOC, PROTECH and CCM then gathered in Hall 3 of GICC.
Welcome speech given by MotorsportChannel and then car club representatives gave their wlecome speech and introduction about their club.
After that, all sponsors gave their products presentation.
Before lunch, the organisers had a lucky draw session and WPC managed to won 2 pairs of Goodyear tyres.
Congratulations to kaz and mya_zara for that prizes.

Around 2pm, the free autokhana session started.
Ad-hoc participations from WPC are:

2. luzirahs
3. barium, driving BJJ
4. akiey
5. marl’s
6. chompantul
7. boy, driving WMD

We call it ad-hoc because we didn’t plan to join the autokhana but after being persuaded by the organisers, then we feel excited and feel proud to join.
Members gave big applause for those 7 Members who took the challenge.
The autokhana participants get 1 practice-run and 3 timed-run.

At 6pm, we decided to drive down from Genting Highlands. Rainy came down and we faced heavy haze. We slowly maneuver our Waja and alhamdulillah and thank God that managed to reach karak Highway without any incident.
We then decided to have a dinner at Nasi Kukus Ayam Dara Taman Melati.
